You have a family. And every family has baggage. It was always taught to me that “Every family has issues.” And I’ve seen in my life how that’s true. You probably have too. Jesus did too. I don’t know if we think about it all that often, but Jesus had a family. And his family had baggage. You can see it in the text we’re going to study this Sunday in Matthew 12:46-50.
We all long for an eternal and loving family. A family without baggage. We long for that. We do not have it yet. This Sunday’s sermon explores where you might be in relation to family and puts into your hands a family that will ALWAYS be there to love you.
You have a family. And every family has baggage. I want you to take the teaching of this text to heart. You’re going to be able to take it to heart if you take it personally. Take it deeply personally. This is a deeply healing piece of scripture here. Because Jesus shows us a family that is undying and indestructible. It’s here. Underneath Jesus’ outstretched arms.
Matthew 12:46-50
Jesus’ Mother and Brothers
46 While Jesus was still talking to the crowd, his mother and brothers stood outside, wanting to speak to him. 47 Someone told him, “Your mother and brothers are standing outside, wanting to speak to you.”
48 He replied to him, “Who is my mother, and who are my brothers?”49 Pointing to his disciples, he said, “Here are my mother and my brothers.50 For whoever does the will of my Father in heaven is my brother and sister and mother.”
